🏦 PMJDY Completes 8 Years (Aug 2022)2022 PMJDY was announced by PM Modi in his 15 Aug 2014 Independence Day address and launched on 28 Aug 2014. As of 10 Aug 2022 (8-year milestone):
  • 46.25 crore total PMJDY accounts — grown 3-fold from 14.72 crore in March 2015.
  • 55.59% (25.71 crore) of account holders are women; 66.79% (30.89 crore) of accounts are in rural/semi-urban areas.
  • Total deposit balance ₹1,73,954 crore; average deposit per account ₹3,761 (up 2.9x since Aug 2015).
  • 31.94 crore RuPay cards issued; 81.2% (37.57 crore) of accounts are operative; only 8.2% are zero-balance accounts.
  • About 5.4 crore PMJDY accountholders received Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) in June 2022.
  • Built on 3 pillars: Banking the Unbanked, Securing the Unsecured, Funding the Unfunded.
  • Extended beyond 2018 with a focus shift from "every household" to "every unbanked adult"; RuPay accidental insurance cover doubled to ₹2 lakh; overdraft limit doubled to ₹10,000.
  • Digital transactions grew from 978 crore (FY2016-17) to 7,195 crore (FY2021-22); UPI transactions grew from 1.79 crore to 4,596 crore over the same period.
